My Name, My Identity: A toolkit to promote belonging and inclusion through self- and social-awareness (social-emotional competencies)
https://www.mynamemyidentity.org/
By pronouncing students’ names correctly, you can foster a sense of belonging and build positive relationships in the classroom, which are crucial for healthy social, psychological, and educational outcomes. Join us in exploring the virtual My Name, My Identity Toolkit - identify resources and take action to support the intentional practice of incorporating student (and staff) names as a universal support for inclusive school communities. This toolkit encompasses activities and strategies to promote identity and cultural assets at the universal (tier 1) school and classroom level. We will highlight stakeholder voice and identify transferable strategies to incorporate this initiative within our daily context. The toolkit is organized across social-emotional competencies, and intended to be an editable resource available to all willing to consider taking the pledge, and committing to:
- Show respect to others’ names and identities in schools by pronouncing students’ names correctly,
- Be a model for students by sharing information and resources about showing respect to others’ names and identities,
- Spread the word about the importance of respecting others’ names and identities and Be proud of who I am and celebrate our differences (in partnership with the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE)).
