Children exposed to trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are more likely to exhibit behaviors that challenge their teachers. With an understanding of the critical role that teacher-child relationships can play in children’s ability to heal from traumatic experiences, teachers can pivot from responding to behaviors through the typical lens of “What’s wrong with this child?” to, instead, considering “What’s happened to this child?” Participants will learn research-validated teaching practices that break the ongoing cycle of dysregulated behavior for trauma-impacted children and receive practical strategies to help them prioritize family relationships, self-care and trauma-related professional learning.
